Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the EDA Tools Directory.

General & Usage

1. Is this website free to use?

Yes, 100%. Our directory is completely free to browse. However, the tools we list have their own licensing (some are Open Source, some are Paid, and some offer Student versions).

2. Do I download the tools directly from here?

No. To ensure security and that you get the latest version, we verify and provide direct links to the official developer websites. We do not host any installer files ourselves.

3. Which tool should I start with as a beginner?

Check our "EDA Top Picks" section under the Tools menu. Generally, we recommend KiCad for PCB design and LTspice for simulation as they are free and widely used.

4. Do these tools work on Mac or Linux?

Many do! On the Browse Tools page, use the "OS Filter" to instantly see only the software that runs on your specific operating system.

Troubleshooting & Safety

5. I found a broken link. What should I do?

Please let us know via the Contact Page immediately. We try to check links weekly, but software companies move pages often.

6. Are the tools listed here safe?

Yes. We only link to official sources (company websites) or trusted repositories (like GitHub). We never link to cracked software or third-party mirrors.

Contributions & Developers

7. How can I add my tool to the directory?

Currently, there is no feature for submitting your tools. In the nearer future, we'll plan about it.

8. Can I update the description or logo for my product?

Absolutely. If you are the developer, email us at contact@edatoolsdirectory.com or use the Contact form, and we will verify and update your listing.

9. What does "Student License" mean?

It means the software is paid for commercial use but offers a free version for students. You usually need a university email address (e.g., .edu) to unlock it.

10. Do you have tutorials for these tools?

We provide Cheatsheets and Roadmaps in the Discover section to help you get started, but for full video tutorials, we link to the official website / documentation of each tool.
